In NYC tomorrow? Come see a panel for the PEN World Voices Festival. At the Public Theater, I’ll be talking bonobos, Loree Griffin Burns will be talking bees, and Padma Venkatraman will be talking the Andaman Islands. (Official topic is how nature is represented in children’s literature. Unofficial topics will be quite varied—these are so very fun co-panelists!)

If you could spend a week in any book world, which would it be?
I’ve always wanted to have tea with the Schlegel sisters from E.M. Forster’s Howards End. Sit in a tidy townhouse for many rainy London afternoons and discuss life and the world and how to touch the beyond.

What is the best word (in any language) and why?
Savory—because it is so deliciously gross when attached to a noun that isn’t food.

Who are you most excited to see at YALLFest?
Readers. The YALLFest ones are so very passionate.

What is your favorite flavor of pie?
Steak and Mushroom. I know. Savory.
